Brush-based “tunnel” car washes drag accumulated grit across paint, causing swirl marks over time. Touchless washes (high-pressure water + chemicals) are safer for paint but require harsh detergents that strip protection. Soft-cloth modern washes are better but still introduce micro-scratches. A hand wash always wins for paint. If you must use an automatic, pick touchless and limit to monthly.
