Faded license plates themselves: cannot legally be restored — DMV requires legible plate, recommend replacement (free in NC after 7 years). Plate frames: chrome frames polish with chrome polish, painted plastic frames repaint with plastic-bonding paint, dealer frames usually replaceable from same dealer. Cosmetic only — doesn’t affect legibility issue.
