Can you remove bugs and tar from motorcycle fairings?
Yes, with soak time and solvents matched to the surface rather than scrubbing. Bug remains are acidic and etch fairing paint fast in summer heat, so the front of the bike gets treated first on every wash we do.
The leading edge of a motorcycle takes more bug strikes per square inch than any car panel, and fairing paint tends to be thinner than automotive body paint. Scrubbing dried bugs with a sponge grinds their shells into the finish, which is how front fairings end up hazed.
Our approach is chemical, not muscular: an enzyme bug soak that breaks down the proteins, a rinse, and a repeat where needed. Tar spots from fresh NC chip-seal roads come off with a solvent tar remover on a soft towel. After the front end is genuinely clean, protection on the fairing makes the next thousand miles of bugs wipe off in one pass.
