After polishing, paint is coated in oils and polish residue that hide what was actually corrected. An isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipedown — diluted 1:1 with water — strips those oils so the detailer can see the true result. It is also the mandatory prep step before any ceramic coating bonds to the surface.
